ESPN.com – Former WWE champion Bret “The Hitman” Hart will return to the company for the first time since undergoing successful prostate cancer surgery in February.

Hart will be in the corner of his niece, Natalya, when she faces WWE women’s champion Charlotte, the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, at Payback, the WWE’s next pay-per-view event on May 1. This will be Hart’s first WWE appearance in about a year.

Natalya is the daughter of Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart and Ellie Hart, Bret’s sister and the daughter of legendary wrestler, promoter and trainer Stu Hart. Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart formed “The Hart Foundation” tag team, which won the WWE tag team championships twice before Hart went onto a solo career and won the WWE championship five times.

Hart actually beat Flair to win the WWE title for the first time in 1992, and the two have feuded publicly over the years in various interviews and in both of their autobiographies, taking shots at each other’s skills, drawing power and place in the history of the business.

While Hart and Flair have reconciled their differences publicly, the lingering feud between both wrestlers will almost certainly be brought up as they prepare to man opposite corners of the ring next month.

While a legend returning to WWE to be in someone’s corner is usually not headline making, this one is different. Bret Hart coming back to WWE is something very special. After announcing he was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in February, people were wondering if he’d survive it, forget about seeing him return to TV.

There are a ton of storylines to play off here, but really I think we can all agree that it’s good to see The Best There is, The Best There was and The Best There Ever Will be back and hopefully 100% healthy. Welcome back Hitman!
