UFC officials announced on Sunday that the former heavyweight champion suffered a back injury and has been forced to withdraw from the UFC 196 title fight against titleholder Fabricio Werdum. Second-ranked contender Stipe Miocic has stepped in to replace Velasquez on the Feb. 6 fight card.

Cain Velasquez getting injured is a shocker. Not really, it would have been more of a surprise if he made it to the fight healthy. I feel Cain’s pain. Over the past year, I have been injured about 365 days. I wake up every day to something new hurting. I try and convince myself it is because I don’t drink enough water, or maybe I don’t stretch enough, or maybe my girlfriend cheated on me and gave me AIDS. I have ruled out the first two and have gone to the Mitch Hedberg school of AIDS tests. That is when I call a friend and ask them if they know anybody with AIDS. If they say no, I am good because they know me. Yeah, I should be ashamed for using a Mitch Hedberg joke in my blog but that was the first thing that popped into my head when I wrote that AIDS line.  I doubt he will be mad at me since I gave him credit for the joke and the other reason he won’t be mad is… he is dead. It is sad because Mitch is one of the funniest guys ever. Stipe Miocic said he never stopped training after his last fight. Of course he didn’t, Cain Velasquez gets injured 99% of the time and he knew he was going to get the call. This should be a good fight though. I hope Werdum doesn’t take Stipe lightly or it could be a bad night for him. They are both about the same size with a similar reach. I give the standup to Miocic but the ground belongs to Fabricio.
