John Cena Announces Return Date to WWE
FoxSports.com – John Cena will be making his return to WWE programming much earlier than expected after shoulder surgery sidelined him for the first part of 2016.According to a Tweet sent out by Cena on Monday, the former WWE champion is well ahead of schedule after surgery and he expects to return to television this May.
Cena made a brief appearance at WrestleMania 32 alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson but since that time he hasn’t returned to WWE programming.
Cena was expected to be out several months with shoulder surgery, which added him to a growing list of wrestlers who have been on the injury list for WWE recently.
Cena suffered the injury back in January and it was supposed to keep him sidelined for approximately nine months. Instead, Cena will return to the WWE in just about five months time.
Former champion Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury that has kept him out of action for several months and just recently Bray Wyatt also suffered a leg injury that put him on the shelf as well.
Cena’s return will bode well for the WWE as they move into the summer with a big lineup of cards slated between his return date and Summerslam, which takes place in Brooklyn this August.
I’m sure this news will set the IWC (for your Stone Cold Podcast Fans) on fire. I’ve never understood the hatred of John Cena. He works his ass off, is amazing with his charitable efforts and doesn’t get anywhere close to the credit he deserves for his in-ring work. I get that his character has lacked evolution and his been on top for so long, but that’s all with good reason. The guy sells more merchandise than most of the roster combined and is also the company’s most marketable personality. He’s the closest thing WWE has seen to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock that this era has produced. There is also something to be said for being able to stay on top for so long. Cena’s run has lasted longer than Hulk Hogan’s or Austin’s as WWE marquee talent. Based on the recent RAW ratings as well, I’d say it could use an infusion of true star power.I would love to see the WWE pull the trigger on a Cena/Roman Reigns feud. Who would the crowd cheer for? The atmosphere for those matches would be electric and I don’t think you need to switch either of them to pull it off. If you watch WWE and you’re not hoping for this feud to happen then I don’t know where your head is at.
