Jose Aldo Wants Release From UFC And Dana White Responds
Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is taking his ball and going home. The only problem is…it is not his ball. Aldo has been asking for a rematch with Conor McGregor since he lost his belt to him in December. I say lost, but it was more like a mugging (13 second KO).
While Conor was busy fighting Nate Diaz at welterweight (twice) Aldo secured the interim featherweight title at UFC 200 defeating Frankie Edgar by unanimous decision. Jose expected to fight Conor next but it was announced McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt in November at UFC 205. Aldo is sick of waiting and told Combate.com
“If [White] likes me and my family, I just hope he released me. I don’t want a fight. I want to leave as I came in. The UFC and WEC didn’t give me anything. Everything I conquered was my merit and from my team. Nobody gave me anything. I conquered everything. And I gave them a lot more than they gave me back. I just want them to release me from my contract.”
Well, it appears White doesn’t like him or his family and stated the following with Combate.com
“We will not cancel his contract,” he said, while adding that the promotion respects Aldo and that his comments were likely made in the heat of the moment.
I guess Jose can’t have the ball after all.
