Kickboxing Champion Says Royce Gracie Will Be ‘Dangerous’ On the Feet Vs. Ken Shamrock
MMAJunkie – Royce Gracie is and always will be a jiu-jitsu player. However, don’t be surprised to see him commit to some strikes when he meets Ken Shamrock next month at Bellator 149.
That doesn’t mean Gracie (14-2-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will be headhunting for a knockout, but the Brazilian has teamed up with veteran kickboxing champion Joe Schilling in order to assure he’s sharp on the feet when he clashes with Shamrock (28-16-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) on Feb. 19 at Houston’s Toyota Center. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.
“He’s dangerous on his feet; he has skills there,” Schilling told MMAjunkie of working with Gracie. “Obviously, he’s Royce Gracie and we’re not going to try to change his style of Gracie jiu-jitsu, but I think he’s learning a lot of things and has a lot of potential.
“We’ve done a lot of training, but for the most part, we’re just focusing a lot on him and his stand up. He has a great work ethic and he doesn’t have any – he comes in like a regular student and works hard and is focused and pays attention. It’s really nice.”
I guess Royce Gracie is like tinea pedis…dangerous on the feet. In case you are not well read, tinea pedis is athlete’s foot. I know you probably read that quickly and were yelling its average size (tinea pedis not tiny penis). I doubt Royce has learned enough on the feet to make anybody fearful of his striking game. I think this is a ploy to get Ken Shamrock thinking about standup so Gracie can take him down and choke the life out of him. I remember seeing Royce fight in the early days…and I hated him. I had no clue what Jiu-Jitsu was so it looked like dry humping to me. I kept thinking, I would love to do that Jiu-Jitsu stuff with that cute girl down the street. I didn’t make it all the way to Jiu-Jitsu with her but I did get to touch her boob. I will eagerly watch this fight and hope they don’t look too old in the ring.
