Bloody Elbow – Luke Rockhold isn’t back in the training room yet, but the former middleweight champion is already looking for the fastest path to a title shot.

Rockhold, who lost the 185-pound belt to Michael Bisping at UFC 199, says he would like to rebound against Anderson Silva to prove his divisional worth.

“There’s a guy I’ve always wanted to fight and that’s Anderson Silva,” Rockhold said on ESPN’s Five Rounds podcast with Brett Okamoto (h/t Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “Anderson Silva is still in the division, he’s still obviously relevant. He had the controversial loss to Bisping, and I had my loss to Bisping. And obviously fighting my teammate on short notice, I think he’s still very relevant and it’s a fight that makes a lot of sense and would be a fun one to do.”

This is a fight that excites me. It may even excite me more than the anticipation of the next pants less Bec Rawlings Instagram post. Luke Rockhold absolutely believes he is the best mixed martial artist in the world and he would love to get a W over the guy everybody thinks is the greatest to ever do it (even if he has lost a step or two recently). Anderson Silva is a legend and most fighters look up to him in awe. He is the Michael Jordan of MMA and everybody is clamoring to share the octagon with him before he retires from the sport. Who wouldn’t? That is a story you could tell your grand kids forever. Not everybody can say they got to go toe to toe with somebody that could be in the hall of fame of hall of famers. The fight itself could be electric too. These guys like to strike and I don’t see Luke just laying on Anderson for the entire fight. I believe he wants to test his striking ability and prove his stand-up is just as good as the Spiders. Please UFC make this fight!!!
