Nick Diaz reached a settlement with the Nevada Athletic Commission for the penalties stemming from his failed drug test at UFC 183. Diaz’s five-year suspension has been reduced to 18 months.  His $165,000 fine was shaved back to $100,000.

I think this is good news for the world. There is no way Nick Diaz should have received a five-year suspension for marijuana even if it is his 553rd time getting caught. Cigaweed is being legalized in a new state everyday and should not be treated like steroids. Sure, it could allow the threshold for pain to increase and reduce anxiety but on the flipside it will probably slow down your reflexes, make you laugh at stupid things and force you to eat a bunch of junk food after the fight. It is not like Maui Waui will give you the ability to knock a persons head into the 10th row. It is a recreational drug that has little performance enhancing properties. He deserves to be punished but he doesn’t deserve to get his career ruined. Maybe, make him go back and watch all his buddy Jake Shields fights. That would be punishment enough.
