MMA Junkie – Pancrase executive Shinji Nishimura has big plans for the 23-year-old MMA promotion, including a goal of holding an event in Las Vegas next year.

Nishimura spoke to MMAjunkie while in town to attend the 5th Annual MMA Combine, which took place April 9 at UFC Gym Las Vegas. In addition to a meeting at UFC headquarters and checking out Manny Pacquiao’s win over Timothy Bradley, Nishimura had an eye out for new roster additions.

“Pancrase is always open for new talent and new guys,” Nishimura said. “We have a 23-year history, but we have many, many, many foreign guys as legends like Bas Rutten, Frank Shamrock and many other guys.

“Nate Marquardt, Jose Aldo fought in Pancrase before. Rafael dos Anjos, Nate Diaz – it’s a lot of history. We’re always finding new guys. This is a very good opportunity to see new guys here in Las Vegas.”

Last year, Pancrase reached a deal to stream events on UFC Fight Pass, providing an accessible platform for U.S. fight fans who have had to use YouTube, various websites and, in the past, tape trading to catch its cards.

That accessibility on the quickly growing digital betwork provides new possibilities for the Japanese promotion. That includes, Nishimura said, a plan to bring the promotion to the “Fight Capital of the World.”

“Also, we’re looking at a Las Vegas show in the near future,” Nishimura said. “I really want to do that. Hopefully, next year. That’s why we need local heroes in Las Vegas to hold our new event here.”

I am always excited to hear more mixed martial arts promotions are bringing their product to the United States…especially ones with a long history like Pancrase. A lot of the legends have fought for them making what they do special. If you follow the sport you have heard the name Pancrase before. It does not just specialize in MMA either it is an endocrine gland producing several important hormones, including insulin, glucagon, somatostatin, and pancreatic polypeptide which circulate in the blood. The pancreas is also a digestive organ, secreting pancreatic juice containing digestive enzymes that assist digestion and absorption of nutrients in the small intestine (wikipedia, because I am too lazy to reference a medical journal). I was kidding about it being an endocrine gland. I was clever and added that because Pancrase sounds like pancreas. This is why I write and you don’t!!! Just call me the King of Pancreas. See, what I did there? This is easy for me!!!
