UFC Fight Night 93

My Thoughts On The UFC Fight Night 93 Main Card

Published On September 6, 2016 | MMA News

Josh Barnett def. Andrei Arlovski via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 3, 2:53

Whenever I see Barnett and Arlovski fight I never count them as the top of the division. I don’t know if it is because these guys have been around forever or maybe it is the lack of promotion on the UFC’s part (I am a dummy and can be brainwashed very easily by marketing gurus). This fight started out strong (both guys almost knocking each other out) and ended strong (rear-naked) but the middle was filled with a lot of…well, what heavyweights do when they get tired. I do not feel Barnett should get a title shot just yet. Maybe, have him fight Junior dos Santos next. That could be pretty cool!!!

Alexander Gustafsson def. Jan Blachowicz via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

I don’t think anybody questioned the motivations of the UFC when this fight was announced. They wanted to get Gustafsson back on the winning ways and send Jan Blackowicz packing with another loss. Alexander looked good on the ground even though his standup was a little suspect. Overall, the UFC must be happy because they get their Swedish superstar back and the division gets a little more competitive.

Ryan Bader def. Ilir Latifi via knockout (knee) – Round 2, 2:06

Bader did a great job controlling the distance early and landing some great kicks. Latifi couldn’t seem to do anything until late in round 1 when he briefly dropped Bader with a couple of hard punches. In the 2nd, Bader tried for a takedown but was unsuccessful. He then landed a knee that knocked Ilir into next week. No really, I think he is actually at UFC 203 right now watching Overeem and Miocic.

Nick Hein def. Tae Hyun Bang via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-28, 30-28)

If you didn’t get to see this fight…you didn’t miss much. Hein outpointed Bang even though it appeared he could have finished the fight if he wanted to.
