MMAJunkie – The UFC on Wednesday released Wanderlei Silva from his contract with the industry-leader, freeing him to fight for other promoters, the fighter’s longtime attorney today told MMAjunkie.

Silva issued a public apology today on his official Facebook page, retracting a fight-fixing allegation toward the UFC that prompted a lawsuit.

“I failed to understand that the term ‘fight-fixing’ specifically refers to the illegal action or practice of dishonestly determining the outcome of a contest before it occurs,” read his statement. “I understand the UFC’s reputation would be harmed if my fans and others actually believed the UFC engaged in fight fixing, and I have no evidence to support such a claim. I apologize for any misunderstanding my comments may have caused.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can’t accuse your boss of fight-fixing. I think that is how that expression goes. I used to like Wanderlei Silva until he started acting like a baby. I love the excuse he did not know what the term meant. He was sitting there saying you mean to tell me fight-fixing means to fix fights? I didn’t know!!! Give me a break and I do not mean that literally, because Silva could snap me like a twig. I am sad to see a UFC career end like this, but I will always appreciate the way he went out there and tried to destroy every opponent he faced. He was a guy you did not want to meet in a dark alley. You toucha his beer, he breaka you face!!!
